There was no violence against Christians in 2014 but the Emir does not want any organised group to threaten his leadership and the government severely restricts freedom of expression. Under the guise of implementing the laws of blasphemy, apostasy and proselytising, government officials harass and abuse Christians. In the main, Kuwaitis are tolerant towards non-Muslim residents; however, there is a group of radical Muslims that is not. Kuwaiti converts from a Muslim background face serious restrictions, particularly from family.
