Drug cartels and illegal armed groups continue to operate with impunity in certain areas. As a result, Christians who speak out are persecuted because of their presence as an alternative pillar of society and their witness through involvement in social and political activities. Indigenous authorities also consider converts to Christianity in their communities a threat to their power and ancestral traditions, subjecting them to hostilities and violence. Numerous Christians have been displaced from their lands, violence targeting Christian women is on the increase and church sermons are monitored.
