Thailand and Vietnam Cooperation on Drug ControlIn 1998, Thailand and Vietnam joined their hands signed the Agreement on the Cooperation in Narcotics Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursor Chemicals Control on 7 October 1998, the cooperation between two countries became much more intensified. Vietnam welcomed Thai delegations to pay the study visit on drugs control. Recently,10 members of Thai delegation, led by Mr. Thongchai Chaiprom, Director of Narcotics Control Office Region2, paid the study visit on community-based treatment and drug abuse prevention in school during 11-15 November 2013 in Hanoi and Thai Nguyen Province.Thailand has received Vietnamese delegations, both middle-management and high-ranking levels, paying the study visit and experience and information sharing on organizational structure, best practices on drug prevention and suppression, preventive education, and treatment and rehabilitation. Recently, Thailand welcomed a group of 8-member Vietnamese delegation, led by Mr. Le Duc Hien, Deputy General Director of Social Evils Prevention Department, Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (DSEP/MOLISA), to pay the study visit on Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation for ATS Addicts during 25- 30 August 2014 in Bangkok, Rayong and Chonburi Province.Thailand and Vietnam have organized 9 times of the bilateral meeting (including this year) Lastly, Thailand hosted the 8th Thailand-Vietnam Bilateral Meeting on Drug Control Cooperation during 23-27 December 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand. Thai delegation led by Ms. Rachanikorn Sarasiri, Deputy Secretary General of the Narcotic Control Board and Vietnamese delegation led by Pol.Lt.Gen. Do Kim Tuyen, Deputy General Director of the General Police Department on Criminal Prevention and Suppression.Apart from study visit exchanges and the bilateral meeting between Thailand and Vietnam, Thailand showed her willingness and support to organize the training workshops, in term of law enforcement and capacity building as well as drug demand reduction. Besides, cooperation under ASEAN framework in the pursuit of Drug-Free ASEAN 2015 has been one of the major commitments of Thailand in the field of drug control cooperation. Thailand also has cooperation with a number of international organizations, particularly, UNODC, ASEAN, the Colombo Plan and ICPO/Interpol. Moreover, Thailand continuously broadens international cooperation on drug control among Thai, Lao PDR and Vietnam.
