ศูนย์อนุรักษ์ช้างไทย ตั้งอยู่ที่บ้านทุ่งเกวียน ต.เวียงตาล อยู่ในความดูแลของฝ่ายอุตสาหกรรมป่าไม้ภาคเหนือ
องค์การอุตสาหกรรมป่าไม้ (ออป.) แต่เดิม ออป. เป็นศูนย์ฝึกลูกช้างซึ่งเป็นแห่งแรกและแห่งเดียวในโลก โดยเริ่มดำเนินการมาตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2512 เป็นสถานที่เลี้ยงและฝึกลูกช้างเพื่อให้เชื่อฟังคำสั่งและมีความชำนาญในการทำไม้ขณะที่แม่ช้างไปทำงานในป่า และเนื่องจากมีนโยบายปิดป่าซึ่งทำให้ช้างต้องว่างงาน ศูนย์ฝึกลูกช้างจึงถูกปรับมาเป็นสถานที่ดูแลช้างแก่และเจ็บป่วย และที่นี่ยังเป็นสถานที่ตั้งของโรงพยาบาลช้างด้วย ออป.จึงได้ก่อตั้งศูนย์อนุรักษ์ช้างไทยขึ้นเมื่อเดือนมกราคม พ.ศ. 2535 และจัดกิจกรรมเพื่อการท่องเที่ยว ได้แก่ การแสดงของช้าง ซึ่งยังคงอนุรักษ์ศิลปะการทำไม้ซึ่งใช้ช้างเป็นพาหนะ และแรงงานที่สำคัญ ในการชักลากไม้ที่ได้จัดแสดงให้นักท่องเที่ยวทั้งคนไทยและต่างประเทศได้ชม เวลาในการแสดง
