วัดพระศรีรัตนศาสดาราม หรือที่ชาวบ้า

วัดพระศรีรัตนศาสดาราม หรือที่ชาวบ้านเรียกว่า วัดพระแก้ว นั้น พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลก โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สร้างขึ้นพร้อมกับการสถาปนากรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ เมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๓๒๕ แล้วเสร็จในปี พ.ศ. ๒๓๒๗

เป็นวัดที่สร้างขึ้นในเขตพระบรมมหาราชวัง ตามแบบวัดพระศรีสรรเพชญ สมัยอยุธยา วัดนี้อยู่ในเขตพระราชฐานชั้นนอก ทางทิศตะวันออก มีพระระเบียงล้อมรอบเป็นบริเวณ เป็นวัดคู่กรุงที่ไม่มีพระสงฆ์จำพรรษา ใช้เป็นที่บวชนาคหลวง และประชุมข้าทูลละอองพระบาทถือน้ำพระพิพัฒน์สัตยา

เนื่องในโอกาสสมโภชกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ครบ ๒๐๐ ปี ในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๕ ที่ผ่านมา การบูรณปฏิสังขรณ์ที่ผ่านมา มุ่งอนุรักษ์สถาปัตยกรรมและศิลปกรรมอันเป็นมรดกชิ้นเอกของชาติ ให้คงความงามและรักษาคุณค่าของช่างศิลปไทยไว้อย่างดีที่สุด เพื่อให้วัดพระศรีรัตนศาสดารามนี้อยู่คู่กับกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ตลอดไป
