KORELATION BAHASA DAN BUDAYA
Bahasa dan budaya adalah dua hal yang sulit untuk dipisahkan karena keduanya memiliki keterkaitan. Artinya bahwa bahasa dan budaya merupakan hubungan yang subordinatif, dimana bahasa berada dibawah lingkup kebudayaan. Atau bahkan bahasa dan kebudayaan mempunyai hubungan yang koordinatif,dalam artian bahwa keduanya memiliki hubungan yang sederajat yang kedudukannya sama tinggi. Bahasa dan budaya keduanya adalah bentuk hasil pemikiran manusia. Yang menjadi pokok permasalahan mengenai hal ini adalah apakah bahasa mempengaruhi kebudayaan ataukah sebaliknya??. Telah dikatakan oleh pakar -pakar linguistics (Teori Sapir –Whorf) bahwa jalan pikiran dan kebudayaan suatu masyarakat ditentukan atau dipengaruhi oleh struktur bahasanya. Sementara itu, Piaget mengatakan budaya (pikiran) akan membentuk bahasa seseorang. Di lain sisi, Vigotsky berpendapat bahwa perkembangan bahasa lebih awal satu tahap sebelum berkembangnya pemikiran (budaya) yang kemudian keduanya bertemu sehingga melahirkan pikiran berbahasa dan bahasa berpikir. Dapat dianalogikan bahasa dan budaya seperti dua sisi mata uang, terlihat berbeda namun mempunyai keterkaitan dan sangat terkoordinasi. Menurut Nababan (1993) terdapat dua macam hubungan antara bahasa dan budaya, pertama bahasa adalah bagian dari kebudayaan (filogenetik), kedua seseorang belajar kebudayaan melalui bahasanya (ontogenetic). Pendapat ini dapat diambil kesimpulan kebudayaan lahir karena budaya, tanpa bahasa tidak akan pernah lahir budaya. Jadi, keduanya memang sangat berkaitan erat.
