Christians in Communist Laos are viewed with suspicion and every movement is monitored. Bibles and training materials cannot be published or imported. Illegal church meetings are often raided and Christian materials confiscated. Most believers live in remote areas where there is no access to biblical training. Converts from a Buddhist or Animist background, especially in rural areas, are put under pressure to recant their faith; their children may be threatened, or excluded from school and community resources. If they stay loyal to their faith, they risk being expelled from the community.
