Dear All,
As you’ve probably all heard by now, last week we had an unpleasant experience in the middle of the night in the Maldives at CIRM which resulted in the main Administration building of the Resort burning to the ground with everything within it.
We were extremely fortunate of course that it was restricted to this building and that no other parts of the resort especially guest facilities or rooms were affected. Most importantly no guests were injured in the incident and staff only sustained minor injuries while putting out the fire.
There is still an investigation ongoing as to the nature of the Fire although it is suspected to be a short circuit from faulty wiring.
As a result this incident once again gives us a timely reminder to be vigilant and always have Fire Training on a regular basis and keep our Fire systems and equipment upto date and in good working order as well as taking the findings in audits from the likes of ‘Safety in Asia’ seriously. In this case CIRM did well in handling the incident but there always lessons to be learned and certain things which could have been done better.
As a result, I would like to draw your attention one more time to the attached CHR Crisis Plan and please request you share this with all concerned. For Managed hotels please be reminded in the event of a Fire or other serious incident it is essential you not only report the information to your direct reports at CHR but also keep your hotel owner equally apprised of the situation.
One other point, please take seriously the request which has been discussed a few times this year to back-up all reports, documents, licenses etc into an e-document file which CHR IT have access to and can thus retrieve should certain information be mislaid at the property.
Being translated, please wait..
