Patent traditions, carried over fro

Patent traditions, carried over from England, were practiced early on
in many of the English colonies here in the United States and
soon found their way into our Constitution. The U.S. Constitution
states that the purpose of patents are to, "promote the
progress of science and the useful arts, by securing for limited
times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective
writings and discoveries.
