One solution to the skeleton problem is the exoskeleton. Exo-means outside, so an exoskeleton is a skeleton that is on the surface or outside of the animal, not on the inside. A number of animals have an exoskeleton. These include insects such as grasshoppers, bugs, beetles, and butterflies. Animals such as shrimp, lobsters, and spiders also have exoskeletons.
