بهشت و جهنم یک امر ضروری است نه قراردادی. انسان منافق و ستمکار، بالضروره باید به جهنم برود و این گونه نیست که او را می‌برند. بهشت و جهنم با خود من است. مقامات بهشت و جهنم بر اساس کمالات نفس است. بهشت باغی نیست که به آن‌جا برویم. بهشت، کمالات ما و فکر و اندیشه ماست. باغ، ملک طلق ماست. بهشت از بیرون نیست و بهشت و جهنم، ما هستیم. انسان‌هایی که رو به تکامل نیستند نیز تنزل نمی‌کنند. یعنی با فانی شدن بدن، حداقل در مرتبه خیال باقی می‌مانند و به بهشت خیالی می‌روند. در قرآن نیز به صراحت آمده است: إِنَّما یَأْکُلُونَ فِی بُطُونِهِمْ ناراً.

بهشت یکنواخت و ملال انگیز نیست. نه تنها در بهشت تنوع هست و انواع خوبی‌ها وجود دارد بلکه فیها ما تشتهیه الانفس، یعنی آنچه می‌خواهی هست و آنچه هست می‌خواهی. چرا؟ چون در بهشت همه چیز مطلوب است و اگر یک چیز نامطلوب در بهشت ببینم، آن دیگر برای من بهشت نیست. هاتف اصفهانی می‌گوید؛ آنچه بینی دلت همان خواهد / و آنچه خواهد دلت همان بینی.

در قیامت حق ظاهر می‌شود. من و شما ظهور حق‌ایم، جلوه‌ی جلالی و جمالی حق‌ایم. جهنم جلوه‌ی جلال حق و بهشت جلوه‌ی جمال حق است. فاصله بین جلال و جمال لایتناهی است. صفت جلال، قهر و بُعد است ولی صفت جمال، زیبایی و نزدیکی است. جلال از عظمت است که باعث طرد و دوری می‌شود ولی جمال زیبایی و جذب است.
