وعن الجهود التي تبذلها الوزارة بعد كل فيضان يقول المهندس البطاشي: تقوم الوزارة بعد كل فيضان أو عاصفة استوائية أو إعصار مداري بزيارات ميدانية مكثفة للسدود للتأكد من سلامتها وسلامة المنشآت المرافقة لها، كما تقوم بتشغيلها وإدارتها بهدف الحصول على أكبر قدر ممكن من عملية التغذية الجوفية وذلك بإطلاق المياه من بحيرات تلك السدود عبر فتحات التصريف ومتابعة حركة المياه المتدفقة بحيث يراعى عدم وصولها للطريق وبالتالي إعاقة الحركة المرورية، كذلك عدم وصولها للبحر أو الصحراء وبالتالي فقدانها وهدرها بلا فائدة، وفي كثير من الأحيان يتم عمل حواجز ترابية أسفل هذه السدود لتوزيع المياه المتدفقة بعد إطلاقها من السدود على مساحات واسعة للحصول على أكبر قدر ممكن من التغذية الجوفية.
ويوجد لدى هذه الوزارة برنامج دوري لصيانة السدود بإزالة الأتربة من بحيراتها وصيانة مرافقها كل ثلاث إلى خمس سنوات لتطويرها والمحافظة على أدائها بالشكل المطلوب وتأدية الغرض الذي أنشئت من أجله..
