Emotional engagement, for instance, demonstrated the strongest association with support for participation in HRD practices. We can interpret and contextualize this fi nding through other similarly focused research. For example, the empirical strength of the emotional engagement construct in this study parallels other research on engagement using a similar three-facet framework (see, for example, Shuck & Reio, 2013). Building on the work of Fredrickson (2001), experienced positive emotions are thought to build toward spiraling states of positive outcomes (e.g., lower turnover intention). While we would argue for the importance of all three facets within the engagement construct, it is plausible that emotional engagement acts as a sort of emotional tipping point toward behavioral intention.
