نبات الشيح غني عن التعريف في البلاد العربية وهو من اشهر النباتات الموجوده لدى العطارين والمعروف باسم الشيح البلدي او بشيح العرب وله العديد من الاستعمالات والفوائد الطبية والعلاجية ويحتوي على مادة السانتوين التي اثارت جدلا كبيرا في الدراسات حول مدى سميتها ومدى فائدتها فهل هي مادة سامه ولاي درجة وهل لها فائدة ؟
الشيح هو /نبات معروف من الفصيلة المركبة، وهو نبات معمر لأوراقه رائحة عطرية، وله أنواع كثيرة أغلبها برية، ويمكن زراعته فى الحدائق الخفيفة فى التربة الرملية.

ويوجد من الشيح البلدي نحو 300 نوع وهو نبات معروف من الفصيلة المركبة ومن النباتات المعمرة ذات الرائحة العطرية,والمادة الفعالة بة على هيئة زيت
