Comparisons between algorithms with the same approach (Random Forest-GAM or ENFA-MAXENT) revealed a significant difference in only one instance (the AUC values of ENFA and MAXENT for S. affinis). The absence of any significant differences between GAM and Random Forest agrees with previous results obtained when comparing these models or similar others (GLM and boosted regression trees) (Elith & Graham, 2009; Oppel et al., 2012) and also with the high values in the Pearson’s correlation coefficients observed for the predicted distribution. In contrast, the absence of significant differences between MAXENT and ENFA contradicts the observed results in studies that compared both models using presenceonly data. These studies found MAXENT performed better (Tittensor et al.,2009; Monk et al., 2010).
