I’ve unfortunately had one of our level 3 assistant managers (K. Karn) in my office today for 1 hour in tears crying at some issues she is facing with work…
The story is, she feels pressure about her working performance from work colleagues, particularly from two of our level 4 managers (K. Mod and K. Apple). Apparently there has been gossip between them, which spread to some of the team, regarding working times, pay rises and general working performance.
I’m not exactly surprised with this, as when I first started I know K. Mod was very quick to feed Tim Haddon emails and dodgy information about my apparent poor working performance. Gossip is common in all working environments, but this has the potential to affect our higher potential junior managers.
Without any physical evidence, it’s a case of “he said she said” at this point…..
We will have our next department head meeting on Thursday, Ravi’s advice is to confront all together, without giving names exactly. Explaining I’ve heard various whispers and am disappointed with that coming from senior team members. Basically asking all to worry about their own working performance, rather than gossip and try to undermine other people.
In this case, I believe it is a case of longer serving “comfortable” managers, worrying about younger staff outperforming them. With the upcoming “Laguna Golf” BU, I have also been asking our Phuket managers to become more accountable for their roles, to be able to operate LPGC without me being here 100% of the time.
