I have some exciting news to share. Today, HGST is announcing the acquisition of Skyera, a privately held storage systems company based here in San Jose. The marketing and development of the product line and roadmap from Skyera will initially be integrated into the HGST Flash Platforms Group under the leadership of Mike Gustafson. Other support groups will be aligned functionally, as appropriate. The acquisition was not subject to regulatory review.
Skyera is a provider of high density, cost-efficient, all-flash arrays (AFA) supporting the cloud and enterprise data center storage market. The acquisition of Skyera complements our flash platform strategy and will help us build scale in this rapidly growing segment. Additionally, Skyera has strong engineering resources and intellectual property that augment our existing solid-state capabilities and portfolio.
Western Digital was an early investor in Skyera, and the two organizations have had an ongoing strategic relationship. Bringing the HGST and Skyera teams together will accelerate our ongoing efforts, and allow us to broaden the scope of innovation to capture new and growing opportunities in data center storage infrastructure.
Please head to Jive for some FAQs, the press release and additional perspective on the acquisition from Mike Gustafson and Dave Tang. As always, you should speak with your manager if you have specific questions.
Please join me in welcoming the Skyera team to HGST. I’m excited about using our combined talents to continue leading the industry and transforming the data center.
Mike
