ใน พ.ศ.2495 ได้มีการฟื้นฟูศิลปะการทำต้นเทียน และการแห่เทียนพรรษาของ จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี มีการประกวดเทียนพรรษา 2 ประเภท คือ ประเภทมัดรวมติดลาย และประเภท ติดพิมพ์

ครั้น พ.ศ.2497 ช่างฝีมือรุ่นเยาว์ อันได้แก่ นายอารีย์ สินสวัสดิ์ นายประดับ ก้อนแก้ว ได้พัฒนาวิธีทำขึ้นใหม่ โดยใช้ปูนพลาสเตอร์แกะเป็นแม่พิมพ์ลายต่างๆ แล้วหล่อด้วยเทียนออกมาเป็นดอกๆ ผึ้งที่ใช้หล่อดอกไม้คนละสีกับลำต้น จึงทำให้มองเห็นเป็นส่วนลึกของลายอย่างชัดเจน นายประดับ ก้อนแก้ว ได้ทำต้นเทียนติดพิมพ์ และตกแต่งขบวนต้นเทียนของวัดมหาวนารามได้อย่างสวยงาม จนได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศ

ประมาณปี พ.ศ.2500 มีการจัดงานกึ่งพุทธกาลทั่วประเทศ งานด้านศาสนาจึงเฟื่องฟูมาก การแห่เทียนพรรษาของจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ได้รับการสนับสนุนให้ยิ่งใหญ่มากขึ้น ทั้งด้านการจัดขบวนแห่ และการจัดหาสาวงามสำหรับต้นเทียน

พ.ศ.2502 นายคำหมา แสงงาม ช่างสูงอายุคนหนึ่งได้คิดและแกะสลักต้นเทียนโดยไม่ต้องพิมพ์ดอกมาติด เหมือนเช่นที่ช่างรุ่นก่อนทำมา ทำให้ต้นเทียนแกะสลักที่นายคำหมาทำให้กับบ้านกุดเป่ง อำเภอวารินชำราบ มีความแปลกใหม่สวยงาม ดังนั้น ในปีต่อมา จึงได้มีการเสนอให้จัดประกวดต้นเทียน 3 ประเภท คือ ประเภทมัดรวมติดลาย ประเภทติดพิมพ์ และประเภทแกะสลัก ระยะต่อมา จึงตัดต้นเทียนประเภทมัดรวมติดลายที่เป็นต้นเทียนแบบเก่า ออกจากการประกวด ช่างแกะสลักต้นเทียนที่มีฝีมือในรุ่นต่อมา ได้แก่ นายอุตส่าห์ จันทรวิจิตร และนายสมัยจันทรวิจิตร ซึ่งเป็นพี่น้องกัน

นับตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ.2520 จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ได้จัดงานสัปดาห์ประเพณีแห่เทียนพรรษา ให้เป็นงานประเพณีที่ยิ่งใหญ่และมโหฬาร มีการประกวดต้นเทียนประเภทต่างๆ ประกวดขบวนแห่ และนางฟ้า โดยมีหลักเกณฑ์และวิธีการให้คะแนนอย่างรัดกุม มีการประชาสัมพันธ์งานกันอย่างกว้างขวาง ทำให้มีผู้คนทั้งชาวไทยและต่างชาติมาเที่ยวและชมงานเป็นจำนวนมาก
