Banding: techniques to visualize chromosomes
Giemsa stain (trypsin digestion of chromosomes) shows dark and light bands v
the dark: heterochromatic, ate-replicating & adenine-thymine rich.
the light euchromatic, early-replicating & normally 300-400 bands in nommal human genome
R-bandi reverse of G-banding (R the dark (Gc rich) the light: heterochromatic (AT rich) C-banding Giemsa binds to constitutive heterochromatin, centromere stain centromere) staining. Q-banding pattem fluorescent pattern of bands similar to G-banding. T-band visualize telomeres (T telomere). fratam staining: Silver nitrate stains ucleolar organization region (NOR associated protein dark region shows silver deposit, denoting activity of rRNA within the NOR.
