「むーっ…」

壁という壁にズラリと上下に並んだフィギュアの群れ。

そのフィギュアたちが見守るようにして遠藤隆は盛んにマウスを動かしていた。

「うーん、

なんかいまいちだなぁ」

「これなんかは…

あーっ

ダメだ」

妖しく輝くディスプレイ画面に表示されるサイトの情報を

久能隆は細かく読み取っていくが、

だが、座り始めて半日近くが過ぎても、

”これだ”と言える素材には巡り合ってはいなかった。



お題は

”海”

それが隆が所属する美術部の部長が部員全員に出した宿題である。

美術部員達はこの題に沿う作品を作り、

そして、それらの展覧会を学園祭での出し物にしようとしていたのであった。

「参ったなぁ…

海と言っても何を作ったらいいのか思いつかないよぉ」

末席ながらも美術部・造形班に籍を置く隆は、

しきりに頭を掻きながらパソコンを操作していた。

元々美術とは無縁の隆だったが、

だがモデラーとしの腕は誰にも負けたことはなく、

その腕を美術部部長に買われて造形班として美術部に入ったのであった。

「はぁ…

なんか、こうっ

キター☆！！

って言うモノは無いのかよぉ。

文化祭までもう時間は無いんだよなぁ」

カレンダーに記された文化祭のマークまで残すはあと７日。

残された時間をしきりに気にしながら隆はマウスを動かし、

そして、

カチッ！

何気なくとある通販サイトへのリンクボタンを押したとき、

パッ！

その画面は変わり、

あるものが大写しで表示された。

その途端、

「！！！っ」

クワッ！

隆の目は大きく見開き、

凍り付いたように画面に釘付けになると、

あれだけ忙しく動いていたマウスを握る手もピタリと動きを止めた。

カリッカリカリカリカリ…

ファイルのダウンロードが始まったのか、

ハードディスクの音だけが部屋の中に響き渡る。



「にっにっ人間粘土ぉ？

なっなんだこれは？」

部屋を覆いつくした静寂を破るように、

画面に浮かび上がる妖しげな文字を隆は一気に読み上げると、

ほぼ同時にダウンロードが終わったらしく、

ファイルの自動再生が開始された。

全裸の少女が銀色の衣装らしきものを手渡されるシーンから始まり、

それを着た少女がお立ち台のような舞台に立つと、

待ち構えたいた作業着姿の男たちがたちまち少女に群がると、

少女はまるで粘土の如く捏ねられ、

削られ、

そして付け足されて、

姿を変えていく様子が表示されていく。

「まっマジ？

痛くは無いのかよ、

血は出ないのかよ、

死んだりしないのかよ…」

普通の人間に対して行えば、

間違いなく警察沙汰になりそうなシーンが延々と表示されるが、

だが、画面の中の少女はいたって涼しい顔をしていて、

また彼女の身体を弄っている男性達もまた、

黙々と作業を続ける職人の表情でだった。

やがて少女の体には鍵爪を持った翼が生え、

筋肉質になった身体には銀の鱗が艶かしく覆い、

そして、

クワッ！

長く突き出された口を大きく開けて、

バサッ

バサッ

羽を羽ばたかせる少女の姿は紛れもない”竜”と化していた。

「すっげーっ、

自分の意思で動かせるのかぁ…

ほっ本当にすごい…」

隆にとってこの映像はまさに衝撃的であった。

そして、

「これがあれば…」

と天才モデラーを自負する隆の心が動き始め、

「……こんなこと…

本当に出来るのなら…」

と呟きながら、

ギュッ

隆はマウスを改めて握り締め直すと、

ススス…

まるで引き寄せられるように画面のトラックポイントを

購入ボタンへと移動していく。

そして、

カチリ！

と購入ボタンを押してしまったのであった。



「遠藤さぁん

宅配便でーす」

それから数日後、

隆の自宅を宅配屋の配達員が訪れると、

厳重に梱包された小包を手渡した後、

さわやかな笑顔を残して去って行った。

「よしっ、

来たぁ

うん、何とか間に合うぞ」

手渡された小包を大事そうに抱えて隆は自室に戻ると、

早速梱包を開る。

そして、

「ほぉ、これかぁ」

箱の中から出てきた銀色のゼンタイを物珍しげに見ると、

ゼンタイの背中、

丁度首筋が当たるところにあるファスナーに

一つのタグが出ているのを見つけた。

「なるほど、

これを切ればファスナーが消え、

弄ったその姿が固定される。

つまり変身したまんま…

一方、切らずにファスナーを引き下げればゼンタイが脱げ、

弄った部分がリセットされるのか、

うーん、

科学の進歩って怖いなぁ…」

と頷き、

「さて、

じゃぁまずは何に変身してみようか」

あれこれを考え始めるが、

「悩むことはないか、

あれに決めているんだから

あれで行こう」

と心に決めると、

一応、ゼンタイと一緒に入っていた説明書に目を通し、

特別な注意事項があるかどうかを確認した後、

隆は着ていた服を全て脱いでゼンタイに足を通した。



まず足を覆い、

スルスルスル…

と身体の上を引き上げられていくゼンタイは

抵抗感を殆ど見せることなく、

その身体を包み込んでいくと、

キュゥゥゥ

と締め付け始めた。

そして、その締め付け感に感じながら、

後ろ手でファスナーを引き上げると、

ピシッ！

と隆の身体を包み込んでしまった。

そしてさらに、

キュッ！

隆は頭までもすっぽりとゼンタイを被ってしまうと、

部屋の鏡には銀色の自分の体の線をくっきりと表現する隆の姿が映った。

「ぷっ、

これじゃぁまるでＢ級映画の宇宙人だな…」

その姿を見ながら隆は小さく笑いながらも、

「これで自由に弄れるようになれるのか」

と身体を包むゼンタイに感心し、

「えーと、

これを着たまま１０分ほどまで待てばいいんだな」

と本来の機能である人間粘土が発動するまでの時間を確認すると、

手近な椅子に座り、

ジッとその時が来るのを待った。

と、そのとき、

「おーぃ、

捗っているかぁ？

学園祭は明後日だぞぉ」

の声と共に隆と同じ美術部に所属している森下歌乃が

いきなりドアを開けると部屋に入ってきた。

「うわっ、

かっ歌乃っ！」

突然の登場に隆は思わず悲鳴を上げると、

歌乃はそう言いながら隆を見るなり、

自分の腿を背中に感じつつ

隆は手をばたつかせて歌乃に頼みこむ、

それを聞いた歌乃は恐る恐る尋ねると、

歌乃に向かって隆はそう懇願すると、

それを聴いた歌乃は恐々と隆の肩を掴み、

引き剥がすように上半身を起こして、

隆の肩はまるで女性のような撫肩になってしまった。

自分の意思どおりに変形してくる自分の体の姿に

隆はモデラーとしての血が騒ぎ始めると、

同じように興味津々の歌乃も手伝って

隆の身体を使った”粘土細工”を始めだした。



「へぇ、削ることも出来るんだ」

「まぁな、

削ったものをつけたりも出来るよ、

試しに腕をもぎ取ってみて」

隆の身体をあるモノへと変えていく。

それは…人魚だった。



「ねぇ、人魚の尾びれってどう処理をする？」

身長を削って

たわわに揺れるバストを隆の胸に作った後、

ゼンタイが覆う二本の足を捩って捏ねながら歌乃が話しかけると、

「うーん、そうだなぁ」

隆はバストが型崩れしないように保護しながら、

うつ伏せになった隆は、

慎重に自分の足先を切り離すと、

それを引き伸ばして大きな鰭を作りながら考え込む、

そして、

「見た目を考えると、

足の関節が残っているほうがいいから、

その線で行こう」

と顔を上げて言うと

「えぇ！、

一本に捏ねちゃったよぉ」

と歌乃は口を尖らせる。

「なぁに、

そういう風に見えればいいんだよ」

そんな歌乃に隆はそういうと、

歌乃が一本にまとめた足の形に手を加え、

さらに足先で作った鰭を繋ぐと、

その上をヘラで鱗を表現し始めた。

すると、

表現された鱗は次々と輝きを放ち始め、

まるで本物の鱗のようになっていく。

「あはっ

すごいっ」

それを見た歌乃は驚くのと同時に、

あることを思いつくと、

「ねぇ色を付けてみようよ」

と言いながら隆の作業台から絵の具を取り出した。



隆と歌乃の作業は時間の経過も忘れて続き、

隆の身体は次第に人魚へと近づいていった。

そして、朝日が窓から差し込む早朝、

「ふぅ…

うんっ、

これでいいんじゃない？」

そう言いながら歌乃が立ち上がると、

彼女の目の前には貝のブラジャーを胸に当て、

長く伸ばした髪、

艶かしい鱗に覆われた尾びれ、

鰭耳を大きく伸ばした人魚がその身を横たえていた。

長時間の作業に疲れてしまったのか、

人魚は眠りについてしまい

呼んだぐらいではとても起きそうな様子ではなかった。

「まったく、

先に寝ちゃってぇ」

そんな人魚を見下ろしながら歌乃は呆れた表情をすると、

「あれ？」

人魚の首筋から小さなタグが飛び出しているのが目に入った。

飛び出しているタグを指でつまみながら

歌乃は幾度か引っ張ってみるが、

タグは容易には外れず、

まるで根を張ったかのようにしっかり繋がっていた。

作業机からハサミをとり、

そして、タグを引っ張りながら、

とそれを切ってしまった。

その途端、

絵筆で色を着色してきたものの、

素材の銀色が見えていた人魚の肌が

ほんのりと紅をさしたような肌色に一気に変わると、

その表面もまた人間の肌と同じ質感も持ち、

また、下半身を覆う鱗や、

身体に纏わりつく髪も同じように質感を持っていく。
