แรงบัดดาลใจจาก บรมพุทโธ มรดกโลกที่อินโดนีเซีย ทำให้หลวงปู่ศรี พระเกจิชื่อดังแห่งภาคอีสาน ได้สร้าง แบบจำลองความยิ่งใหญ่นี้ ไว้ที่วัดป่ากุง ร้อยเอ็ด โดยบรรดาศิษยานุศิษย์ ร่วมกัน ก่อสร้างขึ้นเพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์ครบรอบ 90 ปี พรรษา 60 พระเทพวิสุทธิมงคล "หลวงปู่ศรี มหาวีโร" จำลองแบบจากเจดีย์โบโรบูโด(บรมพุทโธ) ที่เกาะชวา อินโดนีเซีย ...เห็นแล้วงามจริง

สร้าง ด้วยแรงศรัทธาของคณะศิษยานุศิษย์ เสียสละกำลังกายกำลังทรัพย์ เพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์แห่งความสมัครสมานสามัคคี เทิดทูนความดีที่หลวงปู่ศรีได้ประพฤติปฏิบัติ และทำงานแข่งกับเวลาให้สำเร็จเสร็จลงภายใน 2 ปี เริ่มก่อสร้าง 30 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2547 ทำงานกันทั้งกลางวันกลางคืน และจัดให้มีพิธีสมโภชไปแล้วเมื่อวันที่ 3 พฤษภาคม 2549 ใช้งบประมาณไปทั้งสิ้น 40 ล้านบาท

สร้างเป็นเจดีย์รูปทรงแปดเหลี่ยม กว้าง 101 เมตร ยาว101 เมตร(อันนี้คงกว้างxยาวตามชื่จังหวัด) สูง109 เมตร แบ่งเป็น7 ชั้น ตบแต่งด้วยหินทรายธรรมชาติ จากปากช่อง นครราชสีมา

ที่มาของการก่อสร้างเจดีย์หิน คราวเมื่อพระเดชพระคุณหลวงปู่ศรี มหาวีโร ได้ไปปฏิบัติศาสนกิจ จำพรรษาที่ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย เมื่อ พ.ศ.2531 ได้ไปนมัสการเจดีย์โบโรโดร์(บรมพุทโธ) ที่เกาะชวาอินโดนีเซีย ได้เห็นความใหญ่โตมโหฬารงดงาม

หลวงปู่เกิดความประทับใจมาก เมื่อกลับมาเมืองไทยก็ได้นำเรื่องราวที่ได้ไปพบ มาเล่าให้ศิษยานุศิษย์ฟัง และดำริว่าจะสร้างไว้ที่เมืองไทย ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.2535 หลวงปู่ได้สั่งให้พระอาจารย์มานะอตุโลนำพระอาจารย์ศักดิ์ชัย อภิวัฒโน และนายอนุวัตร บูรณะกร(เป็ด) เดินทางไปดูรูปแบบเจดีย์โบโรโดร์(บรมพุทโธ) สถาปัตยกรรมชั้นนำ 1 ใน 7 ของโลก
