ได้แก่ เทคโนโลยีการผลิตก๊าซชีวภาพจากหลุมฝังกลบ (Landfill Gas to energy) ซึ่งเป็นเทคโนโลยีดั้งเดิมที่มีใช้กันมานานแล้ว โดยใช้วิธีการนำเอาก๊าซชีวภาพที่ผลิตได้จากการหมักไปเข้าเครื่องสันดาปเพื่อผลิตกระแสไฟฟ้า ซึ่งใช้เงินลงทุนในระบบไม่สูงมากนัก ส่วนเทคโนโลยีที่จัดว่ามีการใช้รองลงมา ได้แก่เทคโนโลยีเตาเผาขยะ ซึ่งปัจจุบัน มีโครงการที่ใช้เทคโนโลยีเตาเผาขยะเพื่อการผลิตพลังงานไฟฟ้าเกิดขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่อง สำหรับเทคโนโลยีที่จัดว่าอยู่ในขั้นกำลังพัฒนาในประเทศไทย ได้แก่ เทคโนโลยีการนำขยะพลาสติกมาผลิตเป็นน้ำมัน (Pyrolysis) เพราะโครงการส่วนใหญ่ที่ใช้เทคโนโลยีนี้ในการดำเนินการมักประสบปัญหาในหลายด้าน ทำให้โครงการส่วนใหญ่ต้องหยุดชะงักลง
