Niki Saka Sayang, perempuan kelahiran dua puluh tiga tahun lalu ini merupakan anak dari pasangan Jaka Lumayung dan Sukismiari. Perempuan yang dibesarkan bersama seorang adik laki-laki ini mengaku memiliki hobi membaca novel fiksi dan biografi terutama karya-karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Ika Natassa dan Alberthiene Endah. Namun tidak menasbihkan diri sebagai penggemar berat ketiganya. Karena baginya banyak sekali bacaan yang dilahirkan dari penulis-penulis hebat lainnya yang belum dibaca.

Masa kecilnya dibesarkan di pinggiran Surabaya, tepatnya di sekitar terminal Bungurasih yang dikenal luas sebagai terminal terbesar se-Asia Tenggara.
Dia menamatkan sekolah dasar di MI Darul Ulum Medaeng, kemudian melanjutkan ke jenjang sekolah menegah pertama di SMP Negeri 2 Taman dan sekolah menengah atas di SMKN 1 Surabaya.

Tidak ada yang spesial dari seorang Niki, begitu menurutnya. Selain membaca, perempuan berkulit sawo matang ini meyukai dunia tulis-menulis meski hanya sebatas menulis singkat di blog, membagikan isi kepalanya yang setiap hari berkecambah agar tidak semakin menyumbat kepalanya yang berukuran terbatas. Beberapa kali pernah menulis artikel singkat untuk sebuah situs komunitas.

Selain menghabiskan waktu untuk bekerja dan kuliah, Niki aktif di beberapa kegiatan di luar jam kuliah, yakni menjadi pendamping belajar di sebuah komunitas yang mewadahi individu-individu yang peduli terhadap pendidikan. Pengalaman mengharukan ia dapat dari mengikuti kegiatan di komunitas ini. Seperti mengajar bahasa inggris di tempat pengungsian di Jemundo yang melibatkan anak-anak korban bencana sosial.
