One generalization drawn from our review is that the majorityof Southeast Asian forest biodiversity is negatively affect by forestdisturbance, thus preserving and protecting large tracts of matureforests should be the principal conservation strategy (see also Sodhiet al., in press a,b). However, forest remnants in human-modifiedlandscapes can be augmented through reforestation, reintroductions, implementation of corridors and upgrading oftheir protected status to increase their conservation value. Clearly, better logging practices, with longer rotation cycles, incorporationof specific biodiversity guidelines for timber concessions and preservationof remnants in logged forests as source populations areneeded (Dennis et al., 2008). In order to ameliorate the effects ofagricultural expansion on biodiversity in surrounding protectedareas, existing certification guidelines (e.g. by the Roundtable forSustainable Palm Oil [RSPO] and International Coffee Organization[ICO]) need to be improved (e.g. RSPO indicators relevant to wildlifeprotection should be better identified) and enforced
