Der Zeichner und Grafiker Kurt Steinel gehört zu den profiliertesten Künstlern der Offenbacher Szene: zuerst als Student, dann als Dozent und Professor, schließlich als Leiter der Hochschule für Gestaltung. Er wirkte viele Jahrzehnte lang an der Herausarbeitung eines künstlerischen Profils der Stadt mit - bis weit über deren Grenzen hinaus. Er war Gründungsmitglied der Internationalen Senefelder-Stiftung Offenbach und nahm als erfahrener Juror an allen neun Verleihungen des Internationalen Senefelder-Preises teil. Preisträger sind so renommierte Künstler wie Jim Dine und Bruno Bruni. Kurt Steinel beteiligte sich aktiv an der Stiftungsarbeit, beispielsweise an Publikationen.
