By the standards of other countries, Australians are middlingly devout. We track with Britain. Over and again, the results of this special Nielsen poll suggest Australia remains in its patterns of belief - as in so much else under our ocker disguise - an offshoot of Britain. In 2004, the BBC's What the World Thinks of God poll put the UK's "belief in God or a higher power" in exactly the same territory as ours: the high 60 per cents.
