Die von uns gewählte Kunstgießerei garantiert höchste Sorgfalt bei Guss und Nachbearbeitung wie etwa dem Schleifen und Ziselieren des Rohgusses von Hand bis hin zur Patinierung. Gerade die mehrfarbige Patinierung ist dabei eine besondere Herausforderung. Denn so wie jedes der Mainzelmännchen seinen Namen und seinen eigenen Charakter hat, so ist es auch an seiner Kleidung zu erkennen. Um etwa Anton in ein rotes Hemd und eine blaue Hose zu kleiden, ist ein außerordentlich aufwändiges Patinierungsverfahren notwendig, bei der die Farben in genau abgestimmter Reihenfolge und bei unterschiedlichen Temperaturen aufgetragen werden müssen. Das erfordert langjährige handwerkliche Erfahrung und Fingerspitzengefühl des Patineurs.
Das Ergebnis sind kleine Kunstwerke, wie es den Mainzelmännchen gebührt. Und dass sie in künstlerischer Hinsicht ihren berühmten gezeichneten Vorbildern in nichts nachstehen, bestätigt Wolf Gerlach mit seiner Unterschrift - jedes Exemplar trägt seine Signatur.
