Tôi sinh ra và lớn lên ở Đak Lak, một vùng đất bazan màu mỡ rất thuận lợi cho việc trồng cây công nghiệp. Ở thị trấn của tôi, người dân nơi đây chủ yếu trồng các loại cây như: cây cà phê, cây điều, hồ tiêu, và có cả cây mía. Tuy không phải là cây công nghiệp phổ biến, đặc trưng của vùng nhưng tại thị trấn của tôi thì cây mía là cây công nghiệp chính của người dân. Ngành mía đường là một trong những ngành công nghiệp chiếm vị trí qua trọng trong sự phát triển kinh tế của thị trấn tôi, đáp ứng nhu cầu tiêu dùng trong tỉnh cũng như khắp cả nước.
Nhà máy đường 333 chuyên sản xuất đường kính trắng từ mía phục vụ cho tiêu dùng trong nước. Công ty mía đường đã đầu tư công nghệ và thiết bị hiện đại nhằm nâng cao chất lượng sản phẩm cũng như số lượng sản xuất. Mỗi ngày thì nhà máy sản xuất lên đến 1.600 tấn mía/ngày và sản xuất theo thời vụ. Sản lượng đạt 28.000 tấn/ năm.
Nhờ vậy, người dân trong vùng tận dụng đất bỏ hoang trồng mía cung cấp cho nguyên liệu cho nhà máy, giải quyết được nạn thất nghiệp một bộ phận lớn thanh niên trong vùng, họ được tham gia vào hoạt động của nhà máy. Từ đó, thu nhập của các hộ gia đình tốt hơn trước đây, một số hộ dân được xóa đói giảm nghèo, thanh niên có việc làm không phải đi đến các thành phố lớn tìm việc.
Tuy nhiên, hoạt động sản xuất đường đã gây ra một số vấn đề về môi trường như: nước thải, chất thải, chất thải rắn…Do đó, công ty đang tìm ra giải pháp để xử lý vấn đề ô nhiễm, một trong số các giải pháp hiệu quả được áp dụng vừa tiết kiệm chi phí, tăng lợi nhuận giảm ô nhiễm môi trường đó là sản xuất sạch hơn. Điển hình là quản lý quy trình sản xuất chặt chẽ và vệ sinh hơn trong từ khâu sản xuất, thay mới và sửa chữa, vệ sinh các thiết bị, các chất thải được đem đi tái sử dụng làm phân hữu cơ vi sinh, bã mía được đem làm giấy, ván ép.
Tóm lại, ngành công nghiệp mía đường tại thị trấn tôi nhờ tận dụng nguồn tài nguyên đất màu mỡ và nguồn nhân lực dồi dào tại tại vùng, các biện pháp sản xuất sạch nên đã không chỉ mang lại lợi ích về tiết kiệm năng lượng sử dụng, tạo ra các sản phẩm phụ giá trị cao mà còn giúp nhà máy phát triển sản xuất, nâng cao lợi ích kinh tế cho công ty. Còn riêng bản thân tôi rất tự hào khi nói về nền công nghiệp mía đường tại thị trấn và mong ngành công nghiệp mía đường càng ngày càng phát triển.
