ในปัจจุบัน สถานพยาบาลมีความต้องการพยาบาลวิชาชีพเพิ่มมากขึ้น เพื่อรองรับปริมาณผู้ป่วยที่มีจำนวนเพิ่มขึ้น ส่งผลให้สถาบันการศึกษามีความจำเป็นต้องผลิตพยาบาลวิชาชีพในปริมาณที่มากขึ้นเพื่อรองรับความต้องการเหล่านั้น ในทางกลับกัน สถาบันการศึกษาได้ประสบปัญหาเกี่ยวกับการขาดแคลนอาจารย์พยาบาล ส่งผลให้การเรียนการสอนนักศึกษาพยาบาลไม่มีประสิทธิภาพเท่าที่ควร รายวิชาทักษะพื้นฐานทางการพยาบาล นับได้ว่า เป็นวิชาพื้นฐานที่มีความสำคัญต่อการศึกษาในวิชาชีพพยาบาล แต่ด้วยนักศึกษาที่มีปริมาณมากประกอบกับอาจารย์พยาบาลที่ขาดแคลน เพื่อให้การเรียนการสอนมีประสิทธิภาพ อาจารย์พยาบาลจึงได้นำเครื่องมือเข้ามาใช้เพื่อช่วยในการเรียนการสอนก่อนการฝึกปฏิบัติจริง อันได้แก่ วิดิโอและ CAI ฝึกปฏิบัติทักษะพื้นฐานทางการพยาบาล แต่เครื่องมือเหล่านี้ยังไม่สามารถช่วยให้นักศึกษา สามารถฝึกปฏิบัติทักษะพื้นฐานทางการพยาบาลได้อย่างถูกวิธี เนื่องจากเมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับสถานการณ์จริง นักศึกษาไม่สามารถปฏิบัติได้ถูกต้อง จึงอยากทำวิจัยเกี่ยวกับ CAI Simulation for nursing students เพื่อให้นักศึกษาเรียนรู้และเข้าใจการฝึกปฏิบัติการพยาบาลอย่างแท้จริงและสามารถนำความรู้ที่ได้ไปปฏิบัติในสถานการณ์จริงได้
