designs, code, etc.) in an organized and th orough manner. Inspectio ns arc perlormed penodi call y duri ng all
software engineering phases by the artifact's autho r and by o ther engineers. The purpose is to assure the
artifact's correctness by seeking delects. A meeting 01inspectors is held at wh ic h ddects arc ident ified. The

The Inspectio n concept was developed by Michael Fagan [ IJwhile he was at IBM He observed that the
author of a wo rk IS usuall y able to repair a deiect o nce he recognizes its presence. Thus, a process is needed
whereby the delects in a wo rk arc ca lled to the author's attention as ea rly as possi ble. Thi implie that
inspections should be a peer process beca use inspections arc perfo rmed o n work in process rather than on
