พระพุทธศาสนาให้ความสำคัญแก่ชีวิตทั้งในด้านกายและด้านใจหรือทั้งด้านวัตถุและจิตใจเพราะทั้งสองอย่างเป็นองค์ประกอบที่สำคัญของชีวิตแต่ปรัชญามักมองชีวิตด้านเดียวอันเป็นผลจากความรู้ความเข้าใจที่ได้จากการคิดค้นด้วยเหตุผลเพราะปรัชญามีความเชื่อมั่นว่าโลกนี้น่าจะอธิบายได้ด้วยหลักการอันเดียวฉะนั้นเมื่อคิดด้วยเหตุผลแล้วได้ข้อสรุปว่าโลกคือสสารก็ทำให้มองชีวิตเฉพาะในแง่สสารเท่านั้นหากได้ข้อสรุปว่าโลกคือจิตก็ทำให้มองชีวิตเฉพาะในแง่จิตเท่านั้น ปรัชญาก็ยังคงมีทรรศนะเอียงไปข้างหนึ่งอยู่นั่นเองดังนั้นทฤษฏีทางปรัชญาจึงไม่อาจจะให้ภาพของชีวิตที่สมบูรณ์ได้เพราะขาดความรู้หรือความเข้าใจที่สมบูรณ์เรื่องชีวิตนั่นเอง
