Bernd Schwarzer (geboren 1954 in Weimar) ist ein politischer Maler im besten Sinne: Mit der Bereitschaft, gesellschaftliche Verantwortung mit seiner Kunst anzunehmen, steht er ganz in der Tradition von Joseph Beuys. Sein Thema sind politische Emotionen, Deutschland, die Wiedervereinigung und Europa. Bekannt wurde Schwarzer mit Bildern im deutschen schwarz-rot-gold, doch seit den 90er Jahren herrschen die Farben Europas vor.

Schwarzers Werke befinden sich in führenden öffentlichen Sammlungen, z.B. der Albertina Wien, der Kunsthalle Bremen, dem Ludwig Museum in St. Petersburg oder dem Nationalmuseum Seoul.
