At first glance, one could argue that approaches designed for
MANETs will neither work less effectively, less reliably, nor
less efficiently in WMNs than in MANETs. This results from
the fact that, with regard to autoconfiguration, a WMN can be
considered as a hybrid MANET [19] with a specific number of
rather static nodes. However, concerning autoconfiguration, the
most important difference between MANETs and WMNs is
the wireless, hierarchical infrastructure [18]. All layers exhibit
different degrees of redundancy, mobility, and dynamics. A
WMNs autoconfiguration algorithm should take these specifics
into consideration in order to be as efficient as possible. In
contrast, many MANET approaches make efforts that are
disproportionate for the configuration of the mesh backbone,
i.e., they do not take advantage of this infrastructure
