โลกได้มาถึงจุดเปลี่ยนแปลงในศตวรรษที่ 21 ทำให้ชีวิตของในสังคมเกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงตามไปด้วย ระบบการศึกษาจึงจำเป็นต้องพัฒนาเพื่อตอบสนองต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงทีเกิดขึ้น ในอดีตครูคือศููนย์กลางของความรู้ ซึงผู้เรียนต้องเรียนรู้จากครูโดยตรงมุงเน้นให้ผู้เรียนมีทักษะเพียงอ่านออกเขียนได้
