Sie besuchte zwar folgerichtig die Höhere Technische Lehranstalt für Kunsthandwerk in Innsbruck, es sollte jedoch noch Jahre dauern, bis sie sich schließlich mit ihrer ganzen Energie der Kunst widmen konnte.

Stöckl arbeitet in Holz, Ton, Stein und Metall. Bekannt geworden ist sie durch eine noch immer wachsende Werkreihe mit dem Titel „Kopfarbeit“. Sie zeigt Charakterköpfe, bei denen die Künstlerin - ein wenig in der Tradition ihres Landsmanns Franz Xaver Messerschmidt (1736-1783) stehend - ausdrucksstarke Porträts idealtypischer Personifizierungen („Der Macher“, „Der Wissende“, „Die Unbeugsame“) oder Vertreter unterschiedlicher Kulturen („Der Irokese“, „Der Azteke“) darstellt.
