Pembuangan limbah beracun ke tempat-tempat penampungan air tersebut tidak hanya dilakukan oleh aktivitas industri atau pabrikk tetapi rupanya aktivitas-aktivitas sehari-hari seperti mandi serta buang air di sungai, mencuci pakaian di sungai, dan sebagainya bisa menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan air. Akibatnya makhluk hidup yang meminum air tersebut maupun yang tinggal di dalam air seperti ikan-ikan bisa mati dan terkena penyakit.
