It is known that the first order system with integrator and
time delay may represent many of chemical process. Due to
modeling error uncertainty and constant external disturbance,
conventional Smith predictor plus PID control algorithm can
not work well. System output oscillation and residual error
may occur. When the system uncertainty is larger enough,
instability may take place. For these issues, a new
feedforward Smith predictor sliding mode control algorithm
is developed in this study. Stability analysis and simulation
results can validate the effectiveness of the proposed
approach. The proposed approach is a potential control
method in process industry. It should be mentioned that
sound bench tests need to be conducted by simulations and
lab demonstrations before applying the approaches to control
of real chemical process. An intelligent Smith predictor
sliding mode control algorithm is under the authors’
considerations and will be reported when the results is
obtained as soon as possible.
