5. The organization shall not remove or deface existing labels on incoming containers of hazardous materials, unless the container is immediately marked with required information. Secondary workplace containers shall include: 1) the product identifier, 2) words, pictures, symbols or a combination thereof, which provide at least general information regarding the hazards of the chemicals, (e.g. signal word, hazard statements or pictograms, or precautionary statements). Exceptions to this secondary container labeling requirement will be allowed when regulatory requirements allow alternative workplace labels (e.g. chemical hygiene lab container labels, HMIS or NFPA etc.). Each organization shall request and maintain safety datasheets or equivalent documentation for purposes of conducting the EHS analysis, providing workplace labeling, and providing employee access to hazard communication information.
