The projected incidence of stage 2–4 pressure
ulcers in the first 2 days after operation was 1.06%
for patients with current practice and 0.80% for
patients with the intraoperative prevention strategy.
In our fitted natural history model, the intraoperative
incidence accounts for stage 1 pressure
ulcers that might resolve spontaneously without
interventions. The immediate postoperation incidence
includes only stage 2–4 pressure ulcers that
account for the increase in hospital costs and
decrease in quality of life of surgical patients.
