Beowulf é uma obra que reflete fortemente a realidade de um povo que está em constante guerra na qual seus líderes buscam poder, conquista de terras e prestígio. Retrata as crenças pagãs germânicas e cristãs representada por monstros que ele enfrenta como o mais conhecido Grendel, da mitologia nórdica em sua aparência e força - paganismo - descendente de Caim - cristianismo.
Os elementos épicos que eu destaco são:
• governo monárquico;
• guerras violentas;
• lealdade entre os guerreiros;
• submissão ao rei;
• banquetes para festejar as vitórias das batalhas e
• crença no destino e na justiça baseada na vingança.
