Сельское хозяйство в мировой экономике – одна из самых закрытых протекционизмом отраслей. Основной способ протекционизма выражается в колоссальных субсидиях, выделяемых производителям сельскохозяйственной продукции. По объективным причинам сельскохозяйственные товаропроизводители не могут поддерживать рентабельность, сопоставимую с той, которая обеспечивается предприятиями промышленности и сферы услуг.
Ежегодные расходы стран-членов Всемирной торговой организации (ВТО) на сельское хозяйство составляют десятки миллиардов долларов США.
