Unsafe driving behaviors that significantly increase in frequency
with advanced age should be used to inform drivers and their
stakeholders. They should also be used to caution drivers when
implementing educational programs for older drivers. We suggest
that, in addition to objective evaluations, older drivers’ self assessment
could provide useful information to them by raising
awareness of their driving performance. An aging and motorized
society should make continuous efforts to increase safe driving to
preserve the autonomy and independence of older people as long
as possible.
