*** ศาลาแก้วกู่สร้างขึ้นโดย “ปู่บุญเหลือ สุรีรัตน์” หรือ “ปู่เหลือ” ( พ.ศ. 2476 – 2539 ) ซึ่งมีประวัติชีวิตและผลงานอัศจรรย์ โดยย่อ ดังนี้ นางคำปลิว สุรีรัตน์ (พี่สาวคนโตของปู่เหลือ) ชาวหนองคาย แต่งงานได้ระยะหนึ่ง ฝันว่ามีชีปะขาวนำ นาคมรกตมามอบให้ แต่บอกว่าอีก 7 เดือนค่อยไปรับมาเป็นของตน ต่อมาแม่ตั้งท้องลูกคนที่เจ็ด ในวัยสูงอายุและหมดประจำเดือนแล้ว และคลอดเมื่ออายุครรภ์ได้ 7 เดือน ทุกคนจึงเชื่อว่าเป็นไปตามนิมิตในฝัน นางคำปลิวและสามี จึงรับน้องชายมาเลี้ยงเป็นบุตรบุญธรรม ตั้งแต่แรกเกิด

....ด.ช.บุญเหลือชอบเข้าวัดมาแต่เด็ก พออายุได้หกขวบนางคำปลิวเสียชีวิตลง สามีนางคำปลิวมีภรรยาใหม่ ด.ช.บุญเหลือจึงกลับไปอยู่กับ พ่อแม่ผู้ให้กำเนิด แต่มักขัดขวางห้ามปรามผู้ใหญ่ในทางบาปต่างๆ จึงไม่เป็นที่รักใคร่ของญาติพี่น้อง ครั้นอายุ 12 ปี ทนความกดดัน รอบข้างไม่ไหว จึงหนีออกจากบ้านรอนแรม ไปจนพบสำนักอาศรมแก้วกู่ในเขตแดนลาว และได้ฝากตัวศึกษาเล่าเรียนปฏิบัติธรรมอยู่กับ พระมุนีที่นั่น จนอายุครบ 20 ปี พระมุนีจึงให้ออกจากสำนัก ไปจาริกแสวงบุญโปรดญาติโยมทั้งใกล้และไกล เมื่ออายุ 30 ปี จึงได้กลับมาปรนนิบัติตอบแทนคุณในวาระสุดท้ายของชีวิตพ่อแม่ ก่อนแม่สิ้นบุญในปี 2507 ได้มอบที่ดิน 8 ไร่ ณ บ้านเชียงควาน เมืองท่าเดื่อ เวียงจันท์ ไว้เป็นมรดก

...ปี พ.ศ. 2513 ปู่เหลือได้พัฒนาที่ดินดังกล่าวสร้างเป็น “ปูชนียสถานเทวาลัยอย่างมหึมา” พุทธศาสนิกชนทั้งในภาคพื้นยุโรป และเอเชียเลื่อมใสมาก แต่เมื่อเกิดเหตุวิกฤตในราชอาณาจักรลาวเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2518 หลวงปู่จึงพาลูกศิษย์ข้ามโขงมา และรวมกันจัดตั้งเป็น “พุทธมามกสมาคมจังหวัดหนองคาย” โดยกรมการศาสนารับรองให้ในปี พ.ศ. 2519
