The RCM methodology has extensive application also outside this industry. The methodology has its origin in the aircraft and aerospace industry and it was also early applied by the military and the nuclear industry. According to Khamis and Hiren [7] the methodology was used by more than 400 nuclear power stations. Applications are also found in railwork networks ([9] and [10]), metallurgical industries [11,1] and coal mines [11]. For a good overview of various applications, see Carretero et al.
