Throbbing, catchy, energetic, lascivious depending on the circumstances, the rara invites us to dance and celebration combining breath and beat. The rara rhythms are traditionally associated with voodoo. These special "Rara Sounds" are produced by harmonizing and blending several traditional instruments such as the "vaksin", the "Kornets", the "asons", the "graj", the "cha cha", different "drums" and other instruments made by musicians who use them without having ever learned music.Rara period starts just after the carnival and corresponds to that of "Lent" of Christians The word carnival comes from the Latin expression "carne vale" meaning "farewell to the flesh", a reference not only to consumption of meat but also to any forbidden pleasure during the 40 days of Lent. Early in the afternoon and until dawn, the carnival parade or Madi Gras occupies several streets of the town.
