Ớt chỉ thiên đem lại lợi nhuận cao hơn rất nhiều so với trồng lúa, tuy nhiên, đầu ra của sản phẩm này khá bấp bênh do chỉ có một vài công ty bao tiêu và quy mô trồng ớt không thể mở rộng nếu không muốn xảy ra tình trạng “được mùa, mất giá” như những cây trồng khác. Thông qua phân tích thực trạng chuỗi giá trị, phân tích kinh tế chuỗi, hậu cần chuỗi và rủi ro của chuỗi để thấy được đường đi của sản phẩm ớt chỉ thiên, các chức năng và tác nhân tham gia cũng như phân phối lợi ích giữa các tác nhân trong chuỗi có hợp lý không. Bên cạnh đó, đề tài cũng phân tích môi trường vi mô và vĩ mô ảnh hưởng đến hoạt động của các tác nhân trong chuỗi để tìm ra được những thuận lợi, khó khăn của sản phẩm ớt chỉ thiên trong hiện tại cũng như tương lai, từ đó đề xuất các “Giải pháp nâng cấp chuỗi giá trị sản phẩm ớt chỉ thiên tỉnh Trà Vinh”.
