พบว่าสมุนไพรก็สามารถนำมาใช้ในการรักษาสิวได้เช่นกันโดยสารสกัดจากพืชในหลายประเทศรวมทั้งประเทศไทย มีฤทธิ์ในการต้านเชื้อแบคทีเรียที่เป็นสาเหตุของสิวได้ พืชวงศ์ขิง (Zingiberaceae) ก็เป็นพืชอีกชนิดหนึ่งที่มีความน่าสนใจ เนื่องจากสมุนไพรเหล่านี้เป็นที่รู้จักและนำมาใช้เป็นประโยชน์เป็นเวลานาน ดังนั้นจึงมีความเป็นไปได้ในการนำมาศึกษาวิจัย โดยการใช้พืชวงค์ขิงในประเทศไทยมาทดสอบประสิทธิภาพในการต้านเชื้อแบคทีเรียที่เป็นสาเหตุของสิว รวมไปถึงความเป็นสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระ
