วงละอ่อนเกิดจากการรวมตัวของเด็กนักเรียน 6 คน จากโรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย ซึ่งคำว่า "ละอ่อน" นั้น เป็นภาษาถิ่นของภาคเหนือ มีความหมายว่า เด็ก ๆ คนที่อายุน้อยกว่า และเป็นชื่อวันรับน้องของโรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย ซึ่งเป็นการรับน้องระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 1 โดยรุ่นพี่ปี 1 และมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 6 ในขณะนั้น
