วัดพระนารายณ์มหาราช หรือที่ชาวเมือง

วัดพระนารายณ์มหาราช หรือที่ชาวเมืองนครราชสีมา เรียกว่า วัดกลาง เป็นพระอารามหลวงชั้นตรี ชนิดวรวิหาร ตั้งอยู่ตำบลในเมือง อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดนครราชสีมา
เป็นวัดที่ตั้งอยู่กลางใจเมือง ติดกลับศาลหลักเมือง เรียกกันมาตั้งแต่สมัยโบราณว่า “วัดกลาง” หรือ”วัดกลางนคร” โดยถือเอาสถานที่ตั้งเป็นสำคัญ
แล้วเรียกชื่อวัดอื่น ๆ ตามที่ตั้งอยู่ทิศต่าง ๆ ตามชื่อทิศ เช่น วัดบูรพ์(บูรพา) วัดอิสาน วัดพายัพ และวัดบึง วัดสระแก้ว รวม 6 วัด ที่ตั้งอยู่ภายในกำแพงเมือง โดยถือเอาวัดพระนารายณ์เป็นจุดศูนย์กลาง
