Aus Lust am Fabulieren mögen diese sich spiegelbildlich gegenübersitzenden archaischen Löwen entstanden sein, die vielleicht einst als Beschlag ein Weihegefäß zierten. Typologisch sind sie den Figuren des Löwentors von Mykene verwandt. Fast alle griechischen Metallarbeiten fielen den Stürmen der Geschichte zum Opfer, und das vorzüglich gearbeitete Löwenpaar gilt daher als Rarität ersten Ranges.

Die Tang-Dynastie (618-907) markiert in China eine Epoche großer kultureller Blüte. Dichtung und Malerei dieser Zeit werden noch heute hoch verehrt, und auch das Handwerk erreichte eine nie gekannte Reife. Berühmt sind die Tierdarstellungen, insbesondere die Pferde. Sie blieben in der Genauigkeit ihrer Darstellung lange unerreicht. Eine weitere Besonderheit sind die Lasuren vom warmen Braun- bis hin zum leuchtenden Blauton. Unsere Tang-Pferde sind getreue Nachbildungen dieser Meisterwerke; jedes Exemplar ist ein Unikat und weist Abweichungen in Form und Farbe auf. Format 19 x 18 x 7 cm (B/H/T).
